Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the prestigious Speaker of the Knesset Medal by Israel’s Parliament on February 25, 2026, marking the first time an Indian Prime Minister has received this honor. The award ceremony took place after Modi’s address to the Knesset, where he was lauded for his leadership in strengthening India-Israel relations.
Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana presented the medal to Modi, acknowledging his significant contributions to advancing strategic ties between the two nations. Modi joins a select group of global leaders who have received top civilian honors from both Israel and Palestine.
In 2018, Modi was awarded the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine, the highest honor given to foreign dignitaries by Palestine.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Modi with high praise, describing him as a ‘great friend of Israel’ and a ‘champion of the Indian-Israeli alliance.’ Netanyahu expressed his deep appreciation for Modi’s visit, highlighting the enhanced trade and cooperation achieved during Modi’s tenure.
This visit marks Modi’s second trip to Israel in nine years, with bilateral relations being elevated to a strategic partnership during his first visit in July 2017. The ongoing collaboration is expected to further strengthen with upcoming initiatives.
