Punjab, Pakistan is currently facing a monsoon emergency as heavy rains sweep across the province, triggering widespread disruptions and prompting swift action from local authorities. From July 16 to 17, 2025, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecasted rain-wind and thundershowers, with scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in major cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, and Sialkot.

These intense downpours, fueled by strong monsoon currents and a westerly wave, have already resulted in power outages, structural damage, and mounting concerns over flash floods and urban flooding. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued emergency alerts and urged residents—especially those in low-lying areas—to remain cautious and prepared.

According to recent reports, more than 40 people have lost their lives in monsoon-related incidents across Punjab since June. Many of the casualties have been linked to roof collapses and electrocution, underscoring the region’s vulnerability during this season. Authorities are actively working to clear drainage systems in urban centers like Lahore to minimize waterlogging and prevent further damage. Landslide warnings have also been issued for hilly regions such as Murree.

On social media platform X, public concerns continue to rise, with many calling for stronger disaster preparedness and infrastructure improvements to safeguard lives and property during this critical period.
