A Dhaka court is scheduled to pronounce verdicts today in two separate Purbachal plot scam corruption cases against ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 35 others, including her nieces Tulip Siddiq and Azmina Siddiq, and nephew Radwan Mujib Siddiq.

The Purbachal plot scam verdict involves alleged irregularities in the allocation of two 10-katha plots under the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha (RAJUK) New Town Project in Dhaka. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the cases, and trials concluded with arguments finished in January 2026. Judge Md Robiul Alam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-4 fixed Monday, 2 February 2026, for the judgments, expected around 11:00 AM.

These cases are part of a series of graft probes targeting Sheikh Hasina and family members following political upheaval in Bangladesh. They carry significance across South Asia because of the former prime minister’s long tenure, cross-border family connections, and the precedent they set for anti-corruption enforcement in the region.

Case Details and Timeline

The two separate cases together involve 36 accused (18 in each). They centre on claims that Sheikh Hasina, while in office, colluded with senior RAJUK officials to unlawfully allot plots in Sector 27 of the Purbachal New Town Project’s diplomatic zone. The allotments allegedly breached eligibility criteria under prevailing rules.

The ACC completed investigations and submitted charge sheets on 10 March 2025. Formal framing of charges took place on 31 July 2025. Trial proceedings included recording testimony from 31 witnesses in one case and 28 in the other, wrapping up on 5 January 2026. Both prosecution and defence completed final arguments on 13 January 2026.

Among the key accused are Sheikh Hasina, Tulip Siddiq (a sitting British Labour MP and daughter of Sheikh Rehana), Azmina Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, former state minister Sharif Ahmed, and multiple former RAJUK officials including Md Saiful Islam Sarkar, Purabi Goldar, Wali Ullah, Kazi Wasi Uddin, Md Anisur Rahman Miah, Mohammad Khurshid Alam, Tanmay Das, Mohammad Nasir Uddin, Major (Retd) Shamsuddin Ahmed Chowdhury, Nurul Islam, Qamrul Islam, Mazharul Islam, Naeb Ali Sharif, Mohammad Salahuddin, and Sharif Ahmed.

The charges are brought under relevant sections of the Penal Code 1860 and the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947, focusing on abuse of power, criminal conspiracy, and procedural violations in land allocation.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mir Ahmed Ali Salam confirmed to reporters that the court is expected to deliver the Purbachal plot scam verdict at approximately 11:00 AM. Court clerk Belal Hossain separately verified the schedule to BSS news agency.

Hasina Purbachal Plot Scam Verdict Context

This pronouncement follows earlier convictions in four related Purbachal plot cases. Between late 2025 and early 2026, Sheikh Hasina was sentenced to a combined 26 years (some reports cite 21 years across those matters) for similar irregularities involving allocations to family members such as Sajeeb Wazed Joy and Saima Wazed Putul. Other co-accused received sentences ranging from fines to several years, with a few acquittals.

The two cases scheduled for verdict today are the final ones in this batch, specifically concerning plots allotted in the names of Sheikh Rehana’s children, Tulip Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, and Radwan Mujib Siddiq. Prosecutors have indicated they anticipate severe penalties if convictions are secured.

The Sheikh Hasina plot scam case verdict today will add to the growing judicial record on alleged corruption during her administration.

Tulip Siddiq Purbachal Verdict Implications

Tulip Siddiq, who serves as a member of the UK Parliament, stands accused alongside her siblings of leveraging familial influence to obtain the plots. In one of the prior related cases, she was convicted in absentia and sentenced to two years’ imprisonment along with a fine.

The Tulip Siddiq Purbachal verdict therefore attracts attention beyond Bangladesh, given her current role in British public life and the international dimension of the family.

Background

The Purbachal New Town Project is a major urban development initiative led by RAJUK to create residential, commercial, and diplomatic zones on the eastern outskirts of Dhaka. The alleged scam revolves around deliberate bypassing of allotment rules, such as hiding pre-existing land ownership or misusing discretionary powers for politically connected individuals.

These proceedings belong to a wider wave of ACC investigations launched after the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government in 2024, targeting high-profile corruption and abuse-of-power allegations.

What’s Next

The Purbachal plot scam verdict is set to be announced today in open court. Depending on the outcome, convictions, acquittals, or partial decisions any party may file appeals to higher courts. As of this reporting, the judgments remain pending, and final results will be confirmed once delivered.

Continued developments in these cases will likely influence public and political discourse on governance, accountability, and rule of law in Bangladesh.
