On February 24, 2026, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Sayed, in Doha to advance discussions on Qatar trade and expanding bilateral economic cooperation. The meeting took place during the Prime Minister’s official visit, reinforcing the upward trajectory of Pakistan-Qatar relations.
The talks centered on increasing trade volumes and diversifying agricultural exports and value added goods from Pakistan to Qatar. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current momentum in Pakistan-Qatar relations and reaffirmed their commitment to implementing decisions taken during the 6th Session of the Pakistan-Qatar Joint Ministerial Commission. Strengthening Qatar trade channels was identified as a priority to ensure sustainable and mutually beneficial growth.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s investment friendly reforms and emphasized the institutional role of the Special Investment Facilitation Council in promoting investment in Pakistan. He underscored that streamlined regulatory frameworks and facilitation mechanisms are designed to attract greater Qatari investments across key sectors including agriculture, energy, infrastructure, and technology.
Dr. Al Sayed conveyed Qatar’s interest in enhancing private sector linkages and expanding Qatari investments in Pakistan. He agreed to convene a dedicated task force meeting within the month of Ramadan to deliberate on concrete proposals aimed at accelerating bilateral economic cooperation and unlocking new opportunities for investment in Pakistan.
Shehbaz Sharif Visit
This marks the third visit by Shehbaz Sharif to Qatar in five months, reflecting the strategic depth of Pakistan-Qatar relations. The visit comes at a time of significant regional developments, particularly along Pakistan’s western border, and underscores the shared view that deeper Qatar trade engagement and sustained bilateral economic cooperation can serve as a stabilizing force in a shifting regional landscape.
