Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has postponed his planned Russia visit, initially scheduled for March 3-5, due to escalating regional and domestic tensions, according to the Prime Minister’s Office.
The decision was made after consultations, considering recent developments on both the regional and internal fronts. The visit was deemed crucial for advancing bilateral relations between Pakistan and Russia.
Pakistan is currently engaged in Operation Ghazab-lil-Haq against Afghanistan, with over 350 Taliban operatives reportedly killed. Clashes erupted following unprovoked actions by the Taliban along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
In parallel, the United States and Israel have launched attacks against Iran, targeting top Iranian leaders. Pakistan’s Ambassador to Moscow, Faisal Niaz Tirmizi, highlighted plans to sign a preferential trade agreement with Russia during the postponed visit.
Pakistan and Russia have strengthened ties, with trade volume rising significantly. However, the postponement reflects the complex geopolitical landscape and ongoing conflicts.
