UN Support Bangladesh: UN Secretary-General António Guterres has reiterated the United Nations’ steadfast support for Bangladesh during a meeting with Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on March 27, 2026, at the UN Headquarters.

Guterres extended warm congratulations to the newly formed government of Bangladesh and commended its ongoing humanitarian leadership, particularly in providing shelter to the forcibly displaced Rohingya people.

The discussions covered various global challenges, notably the impact of the ongoing global oil crisis on developing and vulnerable nations. Both parties emphasized the need for strengthened cooperation between Bangladesh and the United Nations to address these issues and promote sustainable development.

Dr. Rahman highlighted the disproportionate effects of the crisis on poorer countries and, on behalf of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, invited the UN Secretary-General to visit Bangladesh at a mutually convenient time. Guterres welcomed the invitation, expressing his appreciation for Bangladesh’s efforts.
