On April 1, 2026, a significant shipment of 61,000 metric tons of US wheat shipment arrived at the outer anchorage of Chittagong Port in Bangladesh. This delivery is part of a government-to-government agreement aimed at bolstering Bangladesh’s food security.
The vessel, MV MP Ultra Max 2, is the third shipment under the Cash Purchase Agreement No. 3 between Bangladesh and the United States. Previous shipments included 58,457 metric tons and 62,150 metric tons, respectively. The Ministry of Food confirmed the arrival in a press release issued on Wednesday.
Testing of the wheat samples onboard has commenced, with preparations underway for swift unloading. Of the total consignment, 29,450 metric tons will be offloaded at Chattogram, while 31,550 metric tons will be discharged at Mongla Port.
Bangladesh’s annual wheat demand is approximately 7 million metric tons, with domestic production at 1 million metric tons. The shortfall is met through government and private imports. To date, 467,884 metric tons of wheat have arrived under previous G2G agreements.
Looking ahead, these imports are crucial for maintaining food security in Bangladesh, as the nation continues to rely on international partnerships to meet its wheat demand.
