West Bengal Voter List: significant deletions have occurred in the electoral roll in West Bengal, India following a special intensive revision (SIR) process. By March 23, judicial officers had adjudicated 3.2 million cases, resulting in the removal of 35–40% of names from the list.

The Calcutta High Court appointed judicial officers to oversee the adjudication of more than six million voter claims. As of March 23, approximately 2.9 million cases were resolved, with only one million names included in the first supplementary list published late on March 23.

This release led to widespread confusion due to technical issues, including a temporary website hack, which marked every voter as ‘under adjudication.’ The Election Commission has yet to provide consolidated figures for failed adjudications in this list.

The situation has intensified political tensions between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with accusations of voter list manipulation. TMC’s Mamata Banerjee and BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari have publicly clashed over the deletions.

Looking forward, the Election Commission plans to release a second supplementary list soon, with daily updates potentially facilitated by the Calcutta High Court. This ongoing process could significantly impact the upcoming elections.
