Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan’s premier exploration and production entity, announced a significant discovery of oil and gas on February 21, 2026, at its exploratory well Baragzai X-01 (Slant) in Kohat district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province.
Significant Developments by OGDC
This discovery marks the second consecutive hydrocarbon find, following a recent gas and condensate discovery at the Dars West-3 well in Sindh’s Tando Allah Yar district.
The Baragzai X-01 well, drilled on December 30, 2024, reached a total depth of 5,170 meters. During the Cased Hole Drill Stem Test (CHDST-04) in the Lumshiwal Formation, the well produced 225 barrels of oil per day and 1.01 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
These findings confirm the commercial viability of the block, with previous tests in Kingriali, Datta, and Samana Suk formations also yielding positive results. This development underscores Pakistan’s growing potential in the energy sector.
