Bangladesh Army Undergoes Significant Leadership Reshuffle

On February 22, 2026, the Bangladesh Army announced a major reshuffle in its top leadership positions. The changes, communicated by Army Headquarters, come shortly after the new government under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took office.

Major Military Reshuffle in Bangladesh Army

Lieutenant General Muhammad Mainur Rahman has been appointed as the Chief of General Staff (CGS) of the Bangladesh Army, succeeding Lieutenant General Mizanur Rahman Shamim who has retired. Previously, Mainur Rahman served as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).

Major General Kaiser Rashid Chowdhury is set to become the new Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Currently a Brigadier General at Army Headquarters, he will assume his new role upon promotion. He replaces Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam, now appointed as an ambassador in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Lieutenant General Mir Mushfiqur Rahman has been named Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division, taking over from Lieutenant General SM Kamrul Hasan, who has also been transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These strategic changes include field-level command shifts, indicating a broader realignment within the military.
