Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the ₹1,500-crore Greenfield Airport project in Kota, Rajasthan, on March 7, 2026. The airport is expected to serve as a catalyst for economic and industrial growth in the region.
During the virtual foundation stone laying ceremony, Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to development, highlighting the airport’s role in connecting Kota to the world. This project is crucial for the Hadoti region, providing significant opportunities for local residents.
Modi recalled his 2023 visit, expressing satisfaction with the fulfillment of promises made to the people. He noted that the new airport would ease travel and boost trade, eliminating the need for residents to travel to Jaipur or Jodhpur for flights.
Kota is recognized for its educational and energy sectors, producing power from various sources. The PM praised local products like Kota Doria sarees and Bundi’s Basmati rice, underscoring the region’s potential for tourism with attractions like Shri Mathuradhish Ji and Mukundara Hills.
The airport is part of a broader connectivity revolution, including railway modernization and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Civil aviation minister KR Naidu highlighted the increase in India’s airports from 74 to 160 since 2014, while Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla and chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma discussed further connectivity plans.
The project aligns with the RCS-UDAN scheme to improve air services across Rajasthan. The state government is exploring additional airports and civil enclaves to enhance travel and support regional development.
