PM Modi Launches Major Infrastructure Projects in West Bengal

On March 14, 2026, PM Modi unveiled a series of infrastructure projects in West Bengal, marking a significant investment of ₹18,680 crore. These projects aim to enhance connectivity and economic development in the region.

The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for five sections of the 231 km-long four-lane Kharagpur-Moregram economic corridor. This initiative is expected to reduce travel distance by 120 km, saving approximately seven to eight hours for commuters. The corridor will pass through key districts including Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Hooghly, Purba Bardhaman, Birbhum, and Murshidabad, integrating major National Highways such as NH-16, NH-19, NH-14, and NH-12.

Additionally, Modi inaugurated a 5.6-km-long four-lane Dubrajpur Bypass and major bridges over the Kangshabati and Shilabati rivers on NH-14. He also flagged off the Purulia-Anand Vihar Terminal Express and unveiled six redeveloped railway stations under the Amrit Station scheme. These stations include Kamakhyaguri, Anara, Tamluk, Haldia, Barabhum, and Siuri.

In a move to modernize India’s railway infrastructure, the Prime Minister dedicated two projects to the nation: a 16-km-long third rail line between Belda and Dantan, and an automatic block signalling system between Kalaikunda and Kanimohuli in the South Eastern Railway zone.

Modi also inaugurated sections of NH-19 and NH-114, which are poised to improve road safety, reduce travel time, ease congestion, and stimulate tourism and economic growth. The mechanization of Berth 2 at Haldia Dock Complex and the rejuvenation of Khidderpore Docks are set to enhance cargo handling efficiency.

With assembly elections approaching in April, these projects are expected to play a crucial role in boosting the region’s infrastructure and economic landscape. The foundation stones for various port infrastructure projects, including a river cruise terminal, underline the government’s commitment to fostering regional development.
