Bangladesh Weather: Rain and Thunderstorms During Eid Festivities

Bangladesh Weather Update: The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a weather alert forecasting rain and thunderstorms across the country from March 21, 2026, for five days, including Eid celebrations. The forecast warns of gusty winds and lightning, with potential hailstorms in certain regions.

The alert specifies that Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions will experience rain or thundershowers, accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds and lightning. Day temperatures are expected to decrease slightly, though night temperatures may remain stable.

Meteorologist Md. Hafizur noted that an extension of a low-pressure area over West Bengal and the seasonal low over the South Bay of Bengal contribute to these conditions. The BMD’s forecast includes the possibility of scattered hailstorms, particularly affecting the northern and eastern parts of the country.

On March 22, 2026, rain is predicted to continue in Rangpur, Mymensingh, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions, with isolated occurrences in other areas. The highest rainfall recorded recently was in Madaripur, with 33 mm, while the highest temperature was in Teknaf at 33.1 degrees Celsius.

As Bangladesh approaches Eid, the weather may impact travel and outdoor festivities. Authorities advise residents to stay informed of weather updates and take necessary precautions. The situation remains dynamic, with potential disruptions expected.
