The India-Africa Forum Summit, set to take place on May 31, 2026, in New Delhi, will see top leaders from African nations convene to strengthen strategic partnerships. The summit aims to enhance cooperation in trade, defence, space technology, and critical minerals.
India has significantly expanded its diplomatic presence in Africa, opening 17 new missions since 2018, totaling 46. This expansion comes amidst China’s growing influence on the continent, prompting India to bolster trade and connectivity with African nations.
A key focus of the summit will be on boosting economic and trade relations, defence and security, energy, space and high technology, agriculture, health, education, and climate action. An official stated that India is keen on transforming its relationship with African states into a forward-looking partnership with a robust developmental framework.
The summit will conclude with a declaration outlining cooperation agendas, seeking to align India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047 with Africa’s Agenda 2063. India’s development assistance programs for Africa are driven by local priorities, with over $10 billion in lines of credit extended to 41 African states.
India ranks among Africa’s top five investors and is the fourth-largest trading partner. Trade between India and Africa reached $81.99 billion in 2024-25, with significant exports of petroleum products and pharmaceuticals. India’s cumulative investments in Africa from 1996 to 2025 amounted to $80 billion.
