Pakistan – ECGB Approves 36 Nominations for Women’s Reserved Seats

The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has finalized the scrutiny of nomination papers for women’s and technocrat reserved seats for the upcoming 2026 G-B elections. On May 10, 2026, the commission released the lists of accepted and rejected candidates.

According to the ECGB, nomination papers from 36 candidates for women’s reserved seats have been approved. This approval includes 13 candidates from the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), 2 from the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), 6 from Islami Tehreek, and 4 from the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F).

Additionally, three candidates from the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party and one candidate each from the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) and the Gilgit-Baltistan Democratic Party have been accepted. Among the PML-N candidates, Sajida Begum, Jennifer Bahad, and Sarwat Saba are notable names.

This development marks a significant step in the preparation for the 2026 elections, reflecting the diverse political representation in Gilgit-Baltistan. The acceptance of these nominations sets the stage for a competitive electoral process, with major parties positioning themselves strategically.
