On May 13, 2026, Air India announced a reduction in its international flight services, effective from June to August 2026. This decision is attributed to rising jet fuel prices and airspace restrictions due to the ongoing US-Iran conflict. The airline will reduce flights to North America, Europe, Australia, and SAARC countries, with some routes temporarily suspended.

According to Air India’s statement, services to Chicago, Toronto, New York, Paris, Rome, Sydney, Singapore, and Bangkok are among those affected. The airline is offering re-accommodation on alternative flights, free date changes, or full refunds to impacted passengers.

The conflict in West Asia, particularly after US-Israeli strikes on Iran, has led to retaliatory actions affecting airspace and increasing fuel costs. Air India’s strategic adjustments aim to stabilize its network and minimize passenger inconvenience.

Historically, geopolitical tensions have often impacted international travel, with airlines adjusting routes and schedules to mitigate risks. This situation underscores the vulnerability of global air travel to regional conflicts.

Looking ahead, Air India plans to maintain over 1200 international flights monthly despite the reductions. The airline continues to monitor the situation and will adjust its operations as necessary to ensure passenger safety and service continuity.
