Indian Air Force Jet Crashes in Rajasthan

On July 9, 2025, an Indian Air Force (IAF) Jaguar fighter jet crashed in Rajasthan’s Churu district, near Bhanuda village, around 1:25 PM local time. The twin-seater aircraft, which had taken off from Suratgarh Air Force Station, went down in an agricultural field, triggering a loud explosion and flames visible from a distance. Local residents reported seeing thick smoke rising from the wreckage, which was scattered across a wide area.

Initial reports indicate that two pilots were on board, but their condition remains unconfirmed. Authorities found human remains near the crash site, suggesting possible casualties, though official statements from the IAF are still awaited. Rescue teams, including IAF helicopters and local police, were promptly dispatched to the scene to conduct search and recovery operations. The cause of the crash is under investigation, with early speculation pointing to a technical malfunction, a recurring issue with the aging Jaguar fleet.

This incident marks the third crash involving an IAF Jaguar jet in 2025, following similar accidents in Jamnagar, Gujarat, in April, and Ambala, Haryana, in March. The IAF continues to rely on these British-French aircraft, which have been in service since the late 1970s, despite ongoing efforts to modernize its fleet. Posts on X reflect public concern over the safety of older aircraft, with some users calling for accelerated upgrades to newer models like the Tejas.

The IAF has ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. Southasiandesk.com will provide updates as more details emerge.
