Pakistan and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties during the 10th Political Dialogue held in Brussels on July 17, 2025. Led by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and EU Deputy Secretary General Olof Skoog, the talks emphasized enhanced cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, trade, and migration. Both sides underscored the importance of implementing the 2019 Strategic Engagement Plan to foster mutual interests.
The dialogue addressed pressing global issues, including the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza, with Pakistan and the EU advocating for humanitarian improvements in the region. Discussions also covered diplomatic efforts on conflicts in Ukraine and Kashmir, reflecting a shared interest in promoting regional stability. The EU’s Generalized Scheme of Preferences Plus (GSP+) status, which grants Pakistan favorable trade access, was highlighted as a key pillar of economic collaboration, with trade volumes reaching €14 billion in 2024.
Pakistan emphasized its efforts to combat terrorism and strengthen border security, while the EU pledged support for capacity-building initiatives. The talks also explored cooperation in sustainable development and climate resilience, aligning with Pakistan’s priorities for economic growth and environmental protection. The dialogue builds on a history of engagement, with both parties expressing optimism about expanding partnerships in digital innovation and education.
