Pakistan’s Seafood Exports Climb 13% to $465 Million in FY25

Pakistan’s seafood exports reached $465.4 million in fiscal year 2024–25, marking a 13% increase from the previous year. The sector achieved a record-breaking volume of 216,350 metric tons, the highest in the country’s history. Despite this growth, the industry fell short of its $500 million value target, highlighting persistent challenges in maximizing revenue.

The surge in export volume reflects Pakistan’s growing presence in global markets, with strong demand for shrimp, lobster, and fish products. Key markets, including China, have driven this expansion, with the country emerging as a major buyer of Pakistani seafood. However, limited investment in modern fishing equipment, processing facilities, and packaging continues to hinder the sector’s potential. Shortages of raw materials and restricted access to high-value markets, such as the European Union, further cap earnings.

Posts on X indicate mixed sentiment, with some noting the impressive volume growth but expressing disappointment over the unmet value goal. Efforts to diversify products and explore new markets are underway, which could strengthen the industry’s outlook. Addressing infrastructure gaps and improving quality standards remain key to sustaining this upward trend and boosting future export values.
