Dhaka, July 22, 2025 – Experts are calling for Bangladesh to urgently enhance its climate negotiation capacity to better address the nation’s severe climate challenges, including rising sea levels and devastating floods. As one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable countries, Bangladesh needs skilled negotiators to secure equitable climate finance at global forums like COP29.
The nation’s climate debt, averaging $80 per citizen over the past 14 years, underscores the need for grants rather than loans to fund adaptation and resilience projects. Strengthening diplomatic efforts through training and collaboration with NGOs, youth groups, and government bodies is seen as key to amplifying Bangladesh’s voice in international talks.
Stakeholders emphasize that a robust negotiation strategy will help Bangladesh advocate for loss and damage funds and fair policies, ensuring protection for its communities against worsening climate impacts.
