On July 29, 2025, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar strongly reiterated the country’s longstanding refusal to recognize Israel, voicing unwavering support for Palestinian statehood during a press conference in New York and at the UN Conference on the “Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine.”
Details of Refusal to Recognize Israel
Dar emphasized Pakistan’s continued backing of a sovereign Palestinian state along pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (Jerusalem) as its capital.
He condemned Israel’s military actions in Gaza, citing the deaths of over 58,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, as “a grave violation of international law.” He also called out Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid and attacks on civilian infrastructure — including hospitals and refugee camps — as unacceptable violations of global humanitarian norms.
“The occupation of Palestinian territories must end immediately,” Dar said, stressing the urgent need for a permanent ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza.
Pakistan’s position is consistent with its decades-long foreign policy grounded in solidarity with Palestine and resistance to Israeli occupation. Dar applauded France for recognizing Palestine and urged other countries to follow suit, noting that 147 UN member states now recognize Palestinian statehood.
He also offered Pakistan’s technical support in sectors like healthcare, education, and governance to help build Palestinian institutions. This reinforces Islamabad’s proactive role in organizations like the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) and its leadership during the UN Security Council presidency in July 2025.
Dar also addressed the rising issue of Islamophobia, highlighting Pakistan’s role in the passage of a UN resolution designating an international day to combat anti-Muslim hate, which drew praise from several member states.
On social media, especially X (formerly Twitter), there has been a visible surge of public support for Pakistan’s firm stance, with many users commending the government’s vocal condemnation of Israeli actions and continued backing of Palestinian rights.
