Cambridge International Education (CIE) has announced the cancellation of an AS-level mathematics exam paper after it was prematurely shared, violating examination regulations. This decision affects students in several regions, including Pakistan, where a replacement exam is scheduled for June 9, 2026.
According to Cambridge’s statement, senior assessment experts concluded that a new version of the Mathematics (9709/12) exam paper would be necessary to maintain the integrity of the examination process. The board emphasized that the original paper could not be used to award final results nor considered under calculated assessment mechanisms.
The replacement examination aims to ensure fair outcomes for students and deliver grades that are trusted by universities and other stakeholders. The exam will take place on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, while the overall result schedule remains unchanged, with results expected on August 11, 2026.
CIE has committed to making the replacement examination process as straightforward as possible. Students and schools will not incur additional charges due to the retake. The board plans to share guidance, including question paper distribution procedures and examination protocols, with schools by May 15, 2026.
This incident highlights the importance of strict adherence to examination security protocols to prevent future occurrences. It underscores CIE’s commitment to upholding the credibility of its assessment processes and ensuring equitable treatment for all candidates.
