Iran US talks: Iran has declared that any future discussions with the United States will occur exclusively in Islamabad, Pakistan. This announcement was made by Iran’s envoy to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, on April 16, 2026, emphasizing Pakistan’s position as a ‘credible and neutral facilitator.’
Pakistan previously played a significant role by brokering a 14-day ceasefire between the US and Iran, followed by pivotal talks in Islamabad. While those discussions did not achieve a comprehensive agreement, the ceasefire remains in effect, fueling speculation about further negotiations.
Speaking at the Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad, Moghadam expressed a lack of trust in the United States, stating, ‘We trust Pakistan, not the United States,’ and insisted that Islamabad would be the venue for any future talks.
The White House has also indicated that Islamabad is likely to host the next round of discussions. Recently, Pakistan facilitated the highest-level talks between the US and Iran since 1979, although these meetings concluded without resolution.
Tahir Andrabi, spokesman for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, advised against speculation but confirmed that both nations are committed to dialogue. Iran’s nuclear program was a focal point of the discussions, described as ‘serious and constructive.’
In a related development, Pakistan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Asim Munir, is visiting Iran to engage with Iranian leaders, highlighting the ongoing diplomatic efforts.
