Indian nationals traveling through France by air no longer require an airport transit visa, effective April 10, 2026, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs. This change marks a significant step in enhancing the strategic partnership between India and France.

The announcement was made by MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a briefing, emphasizing the strengthened relationship between the two nations. This decision follows French President Emmanuel Macron’s visit to India in February 2026, where he committed to facilitating travel for Indian citizens.

A decree was published in the French Official Gazette on April 9, 2026, amending visa requirements for foreigners. The abolished transit visa previously required Indian passport holders to obtain authorization for brief layovers in France when traveling between non-Schengen countries.

This policy shift is expected to boost people-to-people connections and streamline travel for Indian nationals, reflecting the deepening ties fostered during Macron’s recent visit. Future discussions may further enhance bilateral travel agreements.
