Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions: Global tensions have risen as major powers including China, Russia, Iran, and the United Nations have urged Pakistan and Afghanistan to cease cross-border hostilities and engage in diplomatic talks. On February 27, 2026, Pakistan responded to what it described as unprovoked aggression by the Afghan Taliban regime, with Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar confirming the death of 133 militants and injuries to over 200 others.

Pakistan’s military initiated Operation Ghazab lil-Haq following the Taliban’s actions along the border. Security sources report that Pakistani forces have dismantled several key Taliban positions, prompting the Taliban to raise white flags in multiple locations. China’s Foreign Ministry expressed deep concern and stated its willingness to mediate.

Russia has also called for an immediate halt to the attacks and offered to mediate if both nations desire. Iran, through its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has expressed readiness to facilitate dialogue between the two countries. The UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is closely monitoring the situation, urging both nations to adhere to international law and prioritize civilian safety.

In a recent development, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar discussed the situation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, emphasizing Pakistan’s response to Afghan aggression. Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has expressed concern over the tensions and called for restraint and respect for sovereignty on both sides.

The ongoing situation remains tense, with global powers advocating for diplomatic resolutions. Future dialogues and interventions by international stakeholders may play a crucial role in de-escalating the conflict.
