Pakistan and US agreed to maintain regular contact and strengthen cooperation on key mutual interests, according to a statement by Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) on Monday.
Formal Phone Call as FOs of Pakistan and US Agreed to Extend Ties
The understanding was reached during a phone call between Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on August 4, 2025.
The FO noted that both leaders discussed “a range of bilateral matters” and also exchanged views on “current regional and international issues.” The call comes shortly after their in-person meeting in July 2025, where the focus was on expanding trade and investment, especially in critical minerals and mining.
Dar About Pakistan and India Situation
In Monday’s conversation, Dar expressed appreciation for the role of US President Donald Trump and Secretary Rubio in easing recent tensions between Pakistan and India, citing their role in facilitating the May 10, 2025 ceasefire, which Trump publicly claimed credit for via social media.
India’s Stance
While India has not officially confirmed US mediation, Pakistani officials maintain that Washington’s intervention helped de-escalate border hostilities, particularly after intense exchanges in disputed Kashmir regions.
The call signals a renewed momentum in US-Pakistan relations, with future cooperation expected in areas including regional stability, trade, and strategic development.
