Pakistan-Bangladesh MoU: On May 9, 2026, Pakistan and Bangladesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in combating drug smuggling and boosting security ties. The agreement was signed in Dhaka by Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and his Bangladeshi counterpart, Salahuddin Ahmed.

The MoU outlines a comprehensive strategy for both countries to prevent the illegal transportation and smuggling of narcotics. It includes the establishment of a secretary-level joint working group to facilitate cooperation. The agreement emphasizes the exchange of timely information, training of personnel, and the use of modern technology to tackle narcotics trafficking.

This development marks a significant step in the strengthening of Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, following recent increases in bilateral trade and cooperation in various sectors. The MoU also covers areas such as counterterrorism, human smuggling, cybercrimes, and organized crime.

Looking forward, both nations have agreed to enhance cooperation in training civil armed forces and developing the Safe City project. These initiatives are expected to further solidify ties and contribute to regional stability.
