On May 5, 2026, space startup Pixxel announced a strategic partnership with Sarvam to develop and launch India’s first orbital data centre satellite, named Pathfinder. The satellite is set to be launched later this year.

Pixxel will undertake the design, construction, launch, and operation of the Pathfinder satellite. Sarvam will provide the AI infrastructure, enabling both training and inference directly in orbit. This collaboration aims to pioneer full-stack language models operating onboard the satellite.

The partnership is a significant milestone in India’s burgeoning space technology sector. Pixxel, known for its innovative approaches in satellite technology, and Sarvam, with its expertise in AI, are set to transform data processing capabilities from space.

The Pathfinder satellite is expected to revolutionize how data is handled in orbit, providing real-time insights and enhancing the efficiency of satellite operations. The launch is anticipated to occur in the latter half of 2026, positioning India as a leader in space-based AI technology.
