U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit India from May 24 to 26, 2026, marking his first visit since assuming office. The visit aims to enhance India-U.S. relations and participate in the Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting alongside Australia and Japan.
During his stay, the Secretary of State will meet with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. These discussions are expected to address the recent fluctuations in bilateral ties, including trade tariffs and regional security issues.
The visit coincides with a public event celebrating 250 years of the United States’ Declaration of Independence. Rubio’s agenda includes reviewing the Bilateral Trade Agreement, which has faced delays due to policy uncertainties in the U.S.
The Quad Meeting, scheduled for May 26, will see participation from Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. Rubio is expected to brief his counterparts on U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Beijing and its implications for the region.
The strategic dialogue is set against the backdrop of U.S.-Iran tensions, with ongoing negotiations impacting the Strait of Hormuz. The outcomes of these discussions could significantly influence future Quad Summit scheduling.
