South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to visit India from April 19 to 21, marking his first trip to the country. During this visit, he will engage in discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to enhance cooperation in various sectors, including trade, shipbuilding, semiconductors, and emerging technologies.
The South Korean President will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a delegation of ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. His visit is the first by a South Korean President to India in eight years. The meetings aim to strengthen cooperation in areas such as artificial intelligence, critical technologies, and people-to-people ties.
President Lee will also meet with President Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. South Korean National Security Adviser Wi Sung-rak emphasized that the visit will bolster South Korea’s Global South diplomacy, recognizing India’s pivotal role among developing nations.
The discussions will lay the groundwork for achieving $50 billion in bilateral trade by 2030, with a focus on accelerating negotiations to enhance the Korea-India Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. This visit underscores the shared aspirations of both nations to expand collaboration into new and emerging areas.
