Bangladesh Elections: 1,400 Dhaka Polling Stations Designated High Risk

In a significant development ahead of the 13th National Parliamentary Bangladesh Elections and the referendum, 1,400 Dhaka polling stations across 13 constituencies have been classified as high risk. This decision was announced by Dhaka Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Sharf Uddin Ahmed Choudhury during a briefing on February 11, 2026.

To ensure security, additional law enforcement personnel will be deployed at these centers. Sharf Uddin confirmed that all preparations for the election and referendum have been completed, with voting materials scheduled for delivery by the evening of February 11, 2026.

While 52 breaches of the election code have been reported, all have been resolved. The Election Commission’s classification of high-risk polling stations will see increased deployment of police, RAB, BGB, and army personnel, alongside 80 executive magistrates and two judicial magistrates operating mobile courts.

Furthermore, 90% of Dhaka’s polling stations are under CCTV surveillance, with two Ansar members equipped with body-worn cameras at each center to provide real-time footage. This comprehensive security strategy aims to ensure a smooth electoral process.
