Mumbai Metro Bridge Collapse: In a tragic incident on February 14, 2026, a portion of a parapet from an under-construction metro bridge collapsed in Mumbai‘s Mulund area, resulting in the death of one individual and injuries to several others. The accident occurred at approximately 12:15 PM near Pier P196 of the Metro Line 4 corridor, which connects Wadala to Kasarvadavali.

The collapse impacted an auto rickshaw passing by, injuring four people who were subsequently hospitalized. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the family of the deceased and assured that the state government would cover medical expenses for the injured. He also ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has imposed a ₹5 crore penalty on the contractor responsible for the project. A technical inquiry has been initiated, led by Director Basavraj M. Bhadragond, to determine the cause of the collapse. Safety assessments are underway, and the affected area has been barricaded in coordination with local authorities.

The incident has raised significant public safety concerns, with political figures like Aditya Thackrey criticizing the state government’s handling of infrastructure projects. The construction at the site has been temporarily halted as investigations continue. The outcome of the inquiry is eagerly awaited to prevent future tragedies.
