Indian airlines have canceled 279 international flights on March 8, 2026, as escalating conflict in the Middle East disrupts air travel. The Civil Aviation Ministry is actively monitoring the situation to manage the impact on passengers and airfares.

The conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran has led to significant airspace closures and restrictions, affecting flight operations across several sectors. Indian carriers had scheduled 49 flights from the Middle East to India, including cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Jeddah, but operational feasibility remains uncertain.

On March 7, 2026, 51 inbound flights from the Middle East arrived in India, carrying over 8,000 passengers. However, Mumbai airport experienced 66 flight cancellations, including 34 departures and 32 arrivals, due to the geopolitical situation.

Air India and Air India Express plan to operate 10 flights to and from Jeddah, and 14 flights to and from Muscat on March 9, 2026. Additionally, 32 non-scheduled flights to the UAE are planned to assist stranded travelers, contingent on slot availability.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation is coordinating with airlines and stakeholders to ensure ticket prices remain stable. Air India will operate 78 additional flights on nine international routes from March 10 to 18, 2026, to provide more travel options amid ongoing disruptions.
