Modi Vows Protection for Nationals Amid US-Iran Conflict

On March 11, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured the nation that Indian citizens stranded in conflict zones due to the escalating US-Iran tensions would receive necessary assistance. Speaking in Kochi, Modi emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of Indians in West Asia.

During his address, Modi thanked Gulf countries for their support of Indian expatriates amidst the crisis. He noted, “Gulf countries are giving utmost care to Indians working there. I am grateful to them for that.”

The Prime Minister criticized the opposition Indian National Congress for politicizing the situation, urging unity on issues concerning the safety of Indian nationals abroad.

The backdrop of Modi’s remarks is a region on edge. Early on March 11, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and Gulf Arab states, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Saudi defense systems intercepted multiple missiles, while a cargo vessel was hit in the Strait of Hormuz.

As tensions rise, Indian missions in the region remain in constant contact with the community, providing necessary assistance. Future diplomatic efforts are expected to focus on ensuring the safe evacuation of nationals if required.
