Pakistan has called for verifiable assurances from Afghanistan that its territory will not be used for terrorist activities against Pakistan. On March 13, 2026, Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi emphasized the necessity of such guarantees during his weekly briefing.

Andrabi stated that due to the absence of these assurances, Pakistan will maintain its current defensive policy. He asserted Pakistan’s right to self-defense in response to cross-border attacks, highlighting recent hostilities that resulted in the deaths of two Pakistani nationals in the UAE.

Pakistan’s missions in the UAE have facilitated the repatriation of the deceased and are providing support to the affected families. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated its Crisis Management Unit, operating around the clock to assist Pakistani citizens with travel and consular support.

In a related matter, Andrabi expressed concern over a uranium supply agreement between Canada and India. He noted that this arrangement could allow India to divert domestic uranium reserves for military purposes, potentially exacerbating strategic imbalances in South Asia.

Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s stance that civil nuclear cooperation should be non-discriminatory and criteria-based, applicable to all states outside the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty framework.
