The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Bangladesh will commence a three-day coastal clean-up campaign in Cox’s Bazar from March 24 to 26. This effort, supported by The Coca-Cola Foundation and in collaboration with local authorities, aims to address the surge of plastic waste following the Eid holidays.
The initiative, part of the Plastic Circularity Project, will be officially inaugurated at Laboni Point on March 24 at 11 AM. Distinguished attendees will include the Deputy Commissioner of Cox’s Bazar, Md A Mannan, and other notable figures.
The campaign’s activities will span across Laboni and Sugandha points, focusing on engaging tourists, businesses, and local stakeholders in responsible waste management practices. New waste bins will be installed at key entry points to facilitate this effort.
Each day, 30 youth volunteers and 20 sanitation workers will work to collect and process plastic waste, ensuring its proper recycling. In a long-term move, 30 waste bins will be handed over to the Tourist Police to maintain cleanliness.
Through this initiative, UNDP and its partners aim to significantly reduce plastic waste on the beach, enhance public awareness, and improve coordination among tourism and waste management stakeholders.
