On March 24, 2026, Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman addressed the United Nations General Assembly, emphasizing the need for global unity in combating racial discrimination. Speaking on the International Day for the Elimination of Racism, Dr Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment by highlighting the country’s adherence to international conventions against racism.

Dr Rahman called for intensified global efforts to eradicate racism, promote equality, and uphold human dignity. He pointed to ongoing racial injustices in regions such as Rakhine and Gaza, underscoring the global community’s failure to achieve the goals outlined in the Durban Declaration and Program of Action.

The Foreign Minister also addressed the plight of migrant workers worldwide, who face exclusion, exploitation, and limited access to justice. These challenges, he stated, undermine the core values of the United Nations.

Reiterating Bangladesh’s constitutional commitment to equality and human rights, Dr Rahman advocated for inclusivity, peaceful coexistence, and stronger human rights institutions. He urged for greater investment in education, decisive action against hate speech, and enhanced intercultural dialogue to build a world free from racism.
