Measles Outbreak Bangladesh: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Bangladesh has reported a significant escalation in measles outbreak, with 11,133 suspected and 1,599 confirmed cases recorded between March 15 and April 8, 2026. The outbreak has led to an increase in infections, deaths, and hospital admissions across the country.

According to a press release from DGHS, 138 deaths were associated with suspected measles cases, while 21 were confirmed as measles-related. Rajshahi division reported the highest number of suspected deaths at 61, followed by Dhaka with 57. Confirmed deaths were most prevalent in Dhaka, with nine cases.

In the past 24 hours alone, 1,248 suspected and 189 confirmed cases were reported, with Dhaka logging the highest number of suspected cases at 505. Health experts emphasize the urgent need for coordinated vaccination efforts to contain the outbreak.

Historically, Bangladesh has faced challenges with measles outbreaks, but the current situation is exacerbated by high population density and limited healthcare resources. The DGHS urges immediate preventive measures to avert further escalation.
