On April 10, 2026, the Pakistan Navy executed a successful rescue operation in the North Arabian Sea, saving 18 crew members from a distressed merchant vessel. The operation took place after a distress signal was received from the MV Gold Autumn, located approximately 200 nautical miles off Pakistan’s coast.

The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) promptly activated its Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) upon receiving the emergency alert. The Pakistan Navy Ship Hunain, which was patrolling the area, was immediately dispatched to assist the vessel.

According to official statements, the PNS Hunain demonstrated exceptional professionalism and operational expertise. The ship’s team provided medical assistance, aided in firefighting, and assessed the vessel’s damage before safely evacuating the crew members. These individuals, hailing from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Indonesia, were transported to Karachi for further medical care and repatriation.

This operation underscores the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to being the first responder to maritime crises in the region. Earlier this year, the navy conducted a similar operation involving the medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan national. In 2024, they rescued nine Indian seamen, showcasing their ongoing dedication to humanitarian assistance despite geopolitical tensions.

Looking forward, the Pakistan Navy continues to enhance its maritime security capabilities, preparing for future challenges and ensuring swift responses to any maritime emergencies.
