Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL) and Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose Limited (KGTML) have commenced significant infrastructure upgrades at Karachi Port as of April 15, 2026. The initiative, led by CEO Khurram Aziz Khan, focuses on enhancing efficiency, reducing logistics costs, and bolstering Pakistan’s trade competitiveness.

During a visit by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, accompanied by Karachi Port Trust Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed, Khan detailed the progress. Dredging work from berths 6 to 17 has been completed, achieving a depth of 15.5 metres, enabling the port to accommodate larger vessels and improve cargo handling capacity.

Khan highlighted ongoing work on the turning basin, which will soon allow vessels up to 350 metres in length, compared to the previous limit of 300 metres. This development is set to double the port’s capacity to handle bulk cargo vessels up to 120,000 tons, a move expected to significantly reduce freight costs.

These strategic upgrades are part of a broader initiative to position Karachi as a leading regional trade hub. The enhancements are anticipated to attract more international shipping lines, fostering economic growth and enhancing Pakistan’s competitive edge in global trade.
