On May 24, 2026, Pakistan, alongside seven other Muslim-majority countries, issued a strong condemnation against Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for his actions towards participants of a Gaza-bound flotilla. The flotilla, which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid, was intercepted by Israeli forces, leading to the detention of its participants.

The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Egypt, Türkiye, Indonesia, Jordan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates expressed their outrage in a joint statement, describing Ben-Gvir’s actions as ‘appalling, degrading, and unacceptable.’ They emphasized that such behavior is a violation of international humanitarian and human rights laws.

The ministers called for accountability and urged the international community to take concrete measures against Ben-Gvir’s repeated provocations. They highlighted the importance of safeguarding human rights and ensuring the humane treatment of all detainees.

The incident has drawn widespread international attention, with footage showing Ben-Gvir taunting detainees while waving an Israeli flag. This has prompted calls for potential sanctions against him, with discussions expected in the European Union’s upcoming meetings.
