Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged all sides to exercise restraint after Israel and Iran exchanged attacks, warning that diplomacy must be given another chance to prevent further violence in the region.
“We sincerely urge all sides to exercise restraint and give peace a little more chance,” the premier said, adding that the “final objective is just about to be achieved”.
PM Shehbaz said Pakistan was working “earnestly and painstakingly” with its partners to help find a peaceful diplomatic solution to the conflict. He called on the parties involved to remain committed to negotiation instead of allowing the situation to slide into further destruction.
“Let us continue to remain on the path of peace and diplomacy which have bright prospects of success instead of violence and destruction,” he said.
The statement came after renewed exchanges between Israel and Iran raised fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East. The latest escalation followed weeks of regional tension, with international actors urging both sides to avoid steps that could further destabilise the situation.
Pakistan has repeatedly condemned Israeli military action against Iran, calling it a violation of Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Islamabad has also stressed the need for adherence to the United Nations Charter and international law.
The Foreign Office has previously said Iran has the right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter, while also urging diplomacy and a negotiated settlement to the crisis.
The latest appeal from PM Shehbaz reflects Pakistan’s effort to position itself as a supporter of de-escalation while maintaining its criticism of Israeli actions. Islamabad has said regional stability depends on restraint, dialogue and respect for international law.
The Israel-Iran exchange has added to global concerns about the security of the wider Middle East, including risks to energy routes and regional economies. Diplomatic efforts are expected to continue as countries push to prevent the confrontation from expanding further.
