CJP Protest Standoff Grows

CJP protest organisers and Delhi Police remained at odds in New Delhi after police refused to extend permission for the Cockroach Janta Party’s demonstration at Jantar Mantar on Saturday, June 20, 2026.

A letter attributed to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, New Delhi district, said permission for the protest had been granted only from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2026. The letter reportedly directed CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke and supporters to end the gathering and vacate the site after the permitted hours expired.

CJP Protest Faces Police Deadline At Jantar Mantar

The police communication, as cited in public reporting, said continuation of the protest beyond the authorised period violated permission conditions, the undertaking submitted by organisers and guidelines governing protests at Jantar Mantar. It also said the request for an extension could not be considered because the protest was already continuing beyond approved hours.

Dipke, however, said on X that he expected police action and urged supporters to continue peaceful protests if he was detained. He also maintained that the protest would continue until Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned over alleged examination irregularities and paper leak concerns.

The CJP had earlier said through public social media posts that it had secured Delhi Police clearance for the Saturday protest at Jantar Mantar. The group said students, parents, teachers and citizens would assemble to demand accountability over examination failures, paper leaks and student welfare concerns.

Abhijeet Dipke Says Protest Will Continue Peacefully

The demonstration drew supporters carrying placards and using plates and spoons as a symbolic form of protest. Police deployment was visible around Jantar Mantar, with barricading and security measures reported at the site.

The protest came ahead of the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination scheduled for Sunday, June 21, 2026. The National Testing Agency’s official website lists multiple notices related to the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination, including conduct of the re-exam, admit cards and related candidate activity.

Background

The Cockroach Janta Party has positioned itself as a youth-led protest movement focusing on alleged examination irregularities, recruitment delays and paper leaks. Its latest mobilisation centred on demands linked to NEET (UG) and wider concerns about the credibility of entrance and recruitment examinations.

The group has demanded the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan, while the government’s immediate response to the specific Jantar Mantar extension demand was not available in an official public statement at the time of writing.

What’s Next

Delhi Police may initiate legal action if it determines that the protest continued in violation of permission conditions. CJP leaders have said they will continue peaceful mobilisation unless their demands are addressed.

The CJP protest is also likely to remain tied to the NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination process, with organisers using the issue to press for accountability in India’s examination system.
