On July 3, 2025, India’s Border Security Force (BSF) allegedly pushed 77 individuals across the border into Bangladesh through three points in Moulvibazar district, raising concerns about border management practices. The group, consisting of 18 children, 15 women, and 15 men, was detained by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel at the Pallathol, Muroichhara, and Jamburachhara borders in Barlekha, Kulaura, and Sreemangal upazilas.
According to BGB sources, the individuals hail from districts such as Jashore, Bagerhat, Chapainawabganj, Barguna, Barishal, and Kurigram. They reportedly entered India illegally through the Kurigram and Jashore borders, seeking work or medical treatment, and were living in areas like Haryana and New Delhi. Indian police detained them before handing them over to the BSF, who then forced them back into Bangladesh without formal repatriation processes. Posts on X have highlighted local frustration, with some users alleging that such actions violate international norms and strain bilateral relations.
The BGB has lodged protests with the BSF, emphasizing that repatriations should follow legal channels. The detainees are currently under verification and have been handed over to local police for further action. This incident adds to ongoing tensions along the India-Bangladesh border, where similar pushbacks have been reported in recent months.
