The Flood Forecasting Division (FFD) has issued a medium-level flood alert for the Indus River at Chashma within the next 24 hours as of July 9 2025. Water inflows could rise to 300,000–350,000 cusecs, driven by heavy monsoon rainfall in upper catchments and rapid snowmelt from the north.

Low-to-medium flooding is already under way at Tarbela and Kalabagh. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has instructed districts along the katcha belt—including Mianwali and Layyah—to ready evacuation plans and keep rescue teams on standby.

On social media, residents recall the devastating 2022 floods and question whether early-warning systems and flood defenses are adequate. The FFD also warned that tributaries such as the Kabul River could see flash flooding, with scattered thunderstorms forecast across KP and Punjab.
