Indian space startup Pixxel funding has reached a new milestone, with the Bengaluru-based company announcing on Monday that it had raised 100 million dollars in a Series C funding round. The round was co-led by Singapore state investor Temasek and British space technology venture firm Seraphim, marking the single largest funding round ever secured by a space technology company in India.
The latest investment brings Pixxel’s total funding to 195 million dollars, according to the company. The round also drew participation from existing backers Radical Ventures and growX Ventures, alongside new investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment. Pixxel, which counts Google among its early supporters, is one of a growing number of Indian space startups that emerged after the government opened the space sector to private participation.
How the Series C Funding Round Strengthens Pixxel’s Position
The Series C funding round represents a significant vote of confidence in Pixxel’s technology and its long-term strategy within the global Earth observation market. By securing backing from both an established sovereign investor in Temasek and a specialist venture firm in Seraphim, Pixxel has positioned itself among a select group of space technology companies capable of attracting large-scale institutional capital.
The involvement of new investors such as 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment, alongside continued support from earlier backers, suggests a broadening base of confidence in the company’s commercial trajectory. Hyperspectral Satellites at the Core of Pixxel’s Business
Pixxel was founded by Awais Ahmed and began its journey by developing hyperspectral satellites, a technology capable of capturing far more detailed information about the Earth’s surface than conventional imaging satellites allow. Hyperspectral satellites work by detecting a much wider range of light wavelengths than standard cameras, enabling analysts to identify subtle differences in soil composition, vegetation health, water quality and mineral deposits that would otherwise remain invisible.
Since its founding, the company has expanded well beyond its original focus. It now operates Aurora, an Earth intelligence software platform that processes satellite data to deliver decision-ready insights for commercial and government clients. Pixxel has also developed satellite systems designed to serve both commercial customers and sovereign space missions, broadening its relevance to defence and strategic applications alongside its original agricultural and environmental monitoring use cases.
Plans for the New Capital
The fresh capital raised through the Series C funding round is expected to support the scaling up of Pixxel’s sensing capacity, including its Honeybee satellite constellation and its high resolution optical imaging satellites. The company has also indicated that part of the investment will go toward expanding Aurora, allowing it to combine data from a larger fleet of satellites into more comprehensive insights for its clients.
This expansion comes at a time when demand for high resolution Earth observation data is rising sharply across industries such as agriculture, insurance, defence and climate monitoring. Governments and private enterprises alike are increasingly relying on satellite derived intelligence to make faster, more informed decisions, a trend that has helped drive investor interest in companies capable of delivering that data reliably and at scale.
