Bangladesh Reaffirms Zero Tolerance for Terrorism

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s commitment to combating terrorism, declaring zero tolerance for terrorism organizations will be allowed to operate within the country. During a meeting with US Chargé d’Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson on July 28, 2025, at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, Yunus emphasized the government’s focus on ensuring national security, stating, “We will do everything possible to keep our soil free of terrorists.”

Agenda of Zero Tolerance for Terrorism

The 40-minute discussion also addressed bilateral relations, including tariff negotiations with the United States, as a Bangladeshi delegation prepares for the third round of talks in Washington. Jacobson expressed support for Bangladesh’s ongoing democratic reforms, which are setting the stage for national elections anticipated in early 2026. Yunus provided updates on the National Consensus Commission’s work to build unity among political parties for these reforms.

Bangladesh’s improved ranking in the 2025 Global Terrorism Index, moving to 35th with a score of 3.03 from 32nd in 2024, reflects progress in its counterterrorism efforts. The meeting underscores Bangladesh’s dedication to both security and economic cooperation, as it strengthens partnerships with global allies while maintaining a resolute stance against extremism.
