Field Marshal Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan, concluded a significant three-day visit to Iran on April 18, 2026. During this visit, he stressed the importance of dialogue and de-escalation in resolving the ongoing US-Iran conflict through diplomatic channels, according to a statement by the military’s media wing.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that Field Marshal Asim Munir, accompanied by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and a delegation, engaged in extensive discussions with Iranian leaders. These included meetings with President Masoud Pezeshkian, Speaker of the National Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Major General Ali Abdollahi of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters.

The discussions focused on promoting sustainable peace in the Middle East, with a particular emphasis on the evolving security landscape and ongoing diplomatic efforts. Munir highlighted the necessity of peaceful resolutions to conflicts through continued diplomatic dialogue.

Expressing gratitude for the hospitality of the Iranian leadership, Asim Munir conveyed best wishes from Pakistan’s leadership and emphasized the desire to strengthen ties between the two nations. His visit underscores Pakistan’s commitment to facilitating a negotiated settlement in the Middle East and promoting regional stability.

Despite the lack of immediate progress in recent talks between US and Iranian delegations in Islamabad, Pakistan remains a key mediator. Following a US-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, the strategic Strait of Hormuz was kept open, a move praised by US President Donald Trump. As tensions continue, Pakistan’s diplomatic role is expected to expand, with further talks anticipated.
