Bangladesh beat Australia after 21 years in a historic ODI win, securing an 86-run win through the DLS method in the first match of the three-game series in Mirpur on Tuesday.
Batting first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Bangladesh posted 284-8 in 50 overs. Mosaddek Hossain led the innings with an unbeaten 86 off 70 balls, while Najmul Hossain Shanto scored 67 and opener Tanzid Hasan added 54.
Australia, chasing 285, were reduced to 191-9 in 42.2 overs before rain stopped play. Bangladesh were declared winners by 86 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.
Nahid Rana starred with the ball, taking 4-41, while Mosaddek completed a strong all-round performance with two wickets. The result marked Bangladesh’s first ODI win over Australia since their famous victory in Cardiff in 2005.
With the win, Bangladesh took a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
