Pakistan flag-bearer of peace has become the country’s image before the world, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said while addressing a commissioning parade at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi.

The prime minister said Pakistan’s recent diplomatic role had strengthened its international standing, particularly after the agreement between Iran and the United States. He described the development as a matter of national pride and said Pakistan had played a constructive role in promoting dialogue and regional stability.

Speaking at the commissioning parade of the 125th Midshipmen and 33rd Short Service Commission Course, PM Shehbaz congratulated the graduating cadets from Pakistan and friendly countries. He said the occasion reflected discipline, professionalism and the continued importance of the Pakistan Navy in national defence.

Pakistan Flag-Bearer of Peace Through Diplomacy

PM Shehbaz said Pakistan’s foreign policy was being recognised internationally because of its efforts to support peace rather than confrontation. He referred to the Iran-US agreement as an example of Pakistan’s diplomatic relevance at a time of regional tension.

The prime minister also praised Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what he described as tireless efforts in promoting peace. He acknowledged the support of friendly countries in facilitating the diplomatic process.

Pakistan has repeatedly presented itself as a state seeking de-escalation in the region, especially during moments of crisis involving neighbouring and regional powers. The government has argued that its role in encouraging dialogue between Iran and the United States reflects international trust in Islamabad’s ability to engage with all sides.

PM Shehbaz Praises Pakistan Navy’s Role

The prime minister also used the Naval Academy address to highlight the role of the Pakistan Navy in safeguarding maritime interests and contributing to national security.

He lauded the Navy’s performance in what the government refers to as Marka-e-Haq, praising its contribution alongside the wider armed forces. He said the armed forces had demonstrated professionalism and readiness in defending the country.

The Pakistan Navy remains central to the country’s security planning because of Pakistan’s coastline, sea trade routes and strategic location near major energy corridors. Its responsibilities include maritime security, coastal defence, protection of sea lanes and participation in regional security cooperation.

Counterterrorism Resolve Remains Central

While speaking about peace, PM Shehbaz also stressed that Pakistan continues to face terrorism sponsored from abroad. He said the country’s armed forces remain determined to eliminate the threat.

The statement comes as Pakistan continues counterterrorism operations in different parts of the country, particularly in regions where militant attacks have targeted security personnel and civilians. The government has repeatedly linked recent violence to hostile external networks, while also emphasising the need for national unity against terrorism.

PM Shehbaz said peace could not be separated from security. His remarks suggested that Pakistan’s diplomatic outreach abroad and its military resolve at home are both being framed as part of the same national strategy.

Graduating Cadets Told to Uphold Professional Standards

The commissioning parade also served as a formal moment of transition for newly trained naval officers. PM Shehbaz congratulated the cadets and urged them to uphold discipline, honour and commitment in service.

Cadets from friendly countries were also part of the graduating course, reflecting Pakistan’s defence training links with allied states. Such training exchanges remain a regular part of Pakistan’s military diplomacy and help strengthen professional ties with partner countries.

The prime minister said the young officers were entering service at a time when the security environment remained complex. He urged them to prepare for both traditional and emerging challenges.

Peace Message Comes Amid Regional Uncertainty

PM Shehbaz’s remarks come against the backdrop of a volatile regional environment shaped by tensions in the Middle East, the threat of terrorism and shifting diplomatic alignments.

By describing Pakistan as a flag-bearer of peace, the prime minister sought to project the country as a responsible diplomatic actor. At the same time, his emphasis on counterterrorism and military preparedness showed that the government is also keen to present strength as part of its peace message.

The speech, therefore, carried a dual theme: Pakistan wants recognition for promoting regional stability, but it also intends to maintain strong defence readiness against terrorism and external threats.

For Islamabad, the challenge will be to translate that message into sustained diplomatic engagement, internal security gains and credible regional partnerships.
